Snow by Orphan Pamuk
This was picked by one of my book clubbers as they are Turkish and so we all thought we would give it a go. I found the book interesting but was a little bogged down with the religious aspects of it and as I didn't know the history I found it a bit tough going.
The writing was beautifully descriptive and it did give me a sense of this small town in Turkey but I did feel I wanted more of a background to the main character so I could find ways to relate to him.
I found the love story part endearing but not enough to keep me enthralled as at times it did feel a bit forced.
There was a very interesting sub plot about girls and headscarves which I would have preferred to read more of as I found this engrossing and would have kept me interested in the story but as he did not really explore this I found the rest of the book really hard going.
Not one for me I'm afraid.
No blog for sometime
It looks as though I have not been reading as I haven't blogged for ages but I have - no really I have! I have been guest reviewing for lovely Emma and can't post my review until it goes live on her website. Also I have been getting my library into shape at home and keep picking up books I have already read!
I promise that I will try and blog more even if it is not a book post. Can you make New Year Resolutions this late in the year?
